Hi

On Saturday we had a crackin’ night with the members of Ashby Mill Rd Club in Scunthorpe.  It’s no exaggeration to say that there was only standing room left – and not much of that. People were literally dancing in the aisles to the Motown Knights “riddim”!

If that wasn’t good enough – the members of the club also contributed very generously to my Swimathon appeal – in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In fact a grand total of £111.36 was donated on the night. This total incudes a very generous £15 from Chris, Cath & “the lads”. The Motown Knights would like to say a huge THANKS to each and every member who contributed on Saturday night…This amount was raised after informing everyone of my succesful Swimathon challenge!…

Yes folks – you’ll be pleased to hear that I did indeed complete 5000 metres at Ponds Forge Swimming Pool on the morning of Friday 17th April 2009. That is 200 x 25 metre breadths or 100 x 50 metre lengths. The medal now hangs on my wall…

I completed the swim in a time of 2hrs and 30 mins exactly.  I’m quite pleased with the time considering I only had one weeks training….Next year I might have a go at the English Channel. What do ya think? -I can see the headlines now “Motown Knights Swim Channel!”. I suppose that should be “Motown Knight” – there’s absolutely no chance of “Lloydy” doing it – LOL…

Unfortunately the evening was slightly marred at the end by the completely unwarranted, disgusting behaviour of three Ashby Mill Rd Club “comittee members” – they know who they are…who should hang their heads in shame. I will not dignify their actions by discussing them here. I think it sufficent to say that I believe their actions were addressed correctly by the Police…

If you would like to donate a little more to my SWIMATHON appeal there’s still a little time left – just click the link.

In closing the Motown Knights would also just like to say a big “thanks” to Steve Hare for booking us and organising the evening and “Stuart” for spinning the vinyl in true DJ styleee! Booyaka!

Best Wishes

Hello,

A big THANK YOU going out to all the good members of Bramley Social club who like the Arundel Club before them – gave generously to my Swimathon appeal at the Motown Knights gig on Sunday 12 04 09.

On the night you raised a grand total of £72.89. Every penny of this will be going to Marie Curie Cancer Care this week – as promised on the night. If you would like to make any further donations there is still a little time left just click this SWIMATHON link.

The Motown Knights hope to see you all again at Bramley Club some time soon…

Cheers

Hello Everybody…

Just had to say thanks to the good people of the Arundel Club – City Rd, Sheffield. Why? Well tonight I announced on stage that I had done a very “foolish” thing. What? Well I’ve entered for the Sheffield Swimathon in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Trust…with just one week to go…!

Yes folks – on the morning of Friday the 17th April at 7.00pm I “Emmanuel” of the Motown Knights will be jumping into Ponds Forge Swimming Pool – and attempting to swim 5000 metres (100 lengths of a 50m pool) for this worthwhile charity… I haven’t left myself very much training time but what the hell – I’m a rock star…I’ll do it – somehow!…Anyway like I said I would like to say a big thank you to the members – and guests of the Arundel Club who raised the grand total of £88.37 at our Motown Knights gig this Saturday Night. I am truly touched by your generosity especially given the – financially challenging times in which we live at present.

The above total includes a very generous tenner from Lloyd B Richards – the Motown Knights guitarist and another tenner from – L. Sweet. Now if I include the £2.00 donated by my very kind and lovely next door neighbour Mary it means that I’m only £9.63 away from my initial target of £100 by Friday the 17th….

I think I’m going to have to increase my initial target folks! After all this really is “all in a good cause”. If you’d like to sponsor me – you can do it right here by clicking this Swimathon link….Every “little” helps…

We look forward to seeing all Arundel Club at another Motown Night soon…

Bless

Yesterday night the Motown Knights appeared at KG’s for around about the fourth time in as many years. I have to say that as usual we went down -a storm! I’m pleased to say that the people of Wombwell have lost none of their enthusiasm for Motown Soul, and Reggae. We gave everyone another Motown Night to remember – if I say so myself and the good people of Barnsley gave us their usual friendly and good – natured welcome….

Lloyd B Richards and I – can’t wait to return…

Cheers

On Sunday the 7th September the Motown Knights played to a receptive and very friendly crowd  in the Old Halfway House, Wakefield. This was a Motown night or should I say – “Motown afternoon” – par excellence! Check out our Top Motown Nights page for highlights.

Bye for Now….

Emmanuel – Motown Knights

The Motown Knights have played the Star Hotel in Cudworth Barnsley previously about 12 months ago…So Lloyd and I thought that we knew what to expect. The people in Barnsley love their Motown nights but even we were pleasantly surprised by the ecstatic reception we received at last Thursday’s Motown night. We literally had ‘em jumpin’ in the isles to Motown music from The Four Tops, the Drifters, etc, etc. However at this Motown night the people were also quite partial to a little Bob Marley, and UB40.

We – the Motown Knights - have built up a little following in Barnsley and it was no surprise to see a few familiar faces. Here’s a shout going out to Marcia, Mary, Jayne, Mick Wayne, Sue….and everyone else who made the effort to come and support us…

We know y’all enjoyed yourelves and the Motown Knights hope to see more of you at up and coming Motown nights in the future….

Peace and Love

Lloyd and Emmanuel – The Motown Knights

Greetings from a crackin’ motown night at Styrrup Golf & Country Club. I’m sat on the stage – in between our sets and bloggin’ like a goodun. The people are gettin’ down and when we’re playing on stage you can feel the love! There are not that many folk but every one here seems determined to have a party. This motown night is goin’ to be one to remember – I can feel it in my mojo…..Gotta go now – second set coming up….

Peace
