Motown Knights Play a Very Wet Motown Night at the CASSA NITE CLUB

Venue: CASSA NITE CLUB, 1 Bridge St, STAFFORD: ST16 2HJ
…There we were – giving the Motown Knight’s best renditions of the great motown classics – with a sprinkling of reggae and soul of course – when the heavens opened and down came the rain. You can bet that we were thankful that I had insisted earlier on some shelter at least- provided by two sturdy parasols…
Nevertheless we were still stood in puddles of water out in the Cassa Nite Club courtyard – and more to the point so were some of our cables and electrical equipment! However I have to say that the atmosphere was “electric” if ya’ll pardon the pun. The crowd was lovin’ us and were quite plainly into the music despite the weather…
Now as I am sure you will know electricity and water definitely do not mix and I didn’t want Lloyd and myself to disappear in a blue flash. So we cut the first half short by a couple of tracks. During the break the Cassa staff mopped up as much water as they could – assisted by the understanding and very helpful “Jack” one of the night club owners.
Luckily the heavens had abated somewhat by the time of our second spot and we opened with Barry White’s You’re the First the Last My Everything…on a relatively dry piece of ground – with our fingers, toes, and lives intact. Unfortunately the heavens didn’t stay “abated” for long and we and the crowd were treated to another heavy downpour about halfway through the second set…Still perhaps riskily (is that a word?) we battled on – well the crowd were dancing and clearly enjoying what the Motown Knights had to offer – and we couldn’t bear to leave ‘em high and dry or should I say – high and wet….
In the end although we cut the second half a little short – we still managed two encores andclosed with The Drifters – “Saturday Night at the Movies” I think I can safely say that The Motown Knights triumphed again. Despite some of the most difficult conditions we’ve performed in yet – we came through.
Lloyd B Richards and myself – Emmanuel – two stalwart and apparently – amphibian – Motown Knights would really like to thank every one who attended the gig last Thursday. We’d especially like to thank the Cassa Nite Club staff who were very accommodating and helpful – especially the two owners that I met – Jack and Dave. We enjoyed ourselves very much despite the inclement weather. We trust y’all did too. You have a great club there and some friendly and soul-lovin folk.
All in all – a memorable night for the Motown Knights.
Cheers
Emmanuel

Dennison Hall Hosts a Motown Night with the Motown Knights in Armley, Leeds….
Well you’ll be pleased to know that I didn’t commit GBH and that we did survive the bingo! Boy do they love their bingo at Dennison Hall! Luckily for us they also enjoy their Motown and soul music.
I have to say that from the outside Dennison Hall doesn’t look very inviting – however once inside it’s quite nicely done out and the folk are “mint”….as we say in Yorkshire.
One thing that did irritate us though was having to load our gear in past all the smokers who gather like like a dark mushroom cloud outside the front doors. We both held our breaths and got on with it as best we could. The Motown Knights have a message for the all the smokers at Dennison Hall - PACK IT IN – It’s Not Big and it’s Not Clever!
We did our usual show and found the Armley audience to be very appreciative, and yes – we did get them up dancing…Lloyd B Richards - guitarist with the Motown Knights had the usual “piss taken” for lookin a bit like Howard from the Halifax advert…You know the guy who gives you extra with the the milk bottle lens glasses…How he hates that….hee hee hee…
We’re sendin’ a shout out here to Sadie and Linda (or it could be Lydia) just like we promised. Nice to meet you both – catch ya next time….
